Topic: NON Computers(CS or IT) Background cases in California Service

I am planning to go to India during the month of Feb for stamping for me and my wife (having H4 EAD but not working yet) in Chennai. I am worried about the Non CS degree for an IT job.

My friend did Btech and then MS from US, both in Mechanical, but he is working on business side as BA. He was asked in 2010 in visa interview how is degree is related to his work. He was able to explain by giving reference of his work experience. He also visited India 2 times after that and attended interview but was never asked any question. But it's "dicey".

I myself in same situation which Chemical degree (Btech) and working in IT and precarious on my India visit which I haven't yet slated but you keep us posted how it goes.

This is not a right way to ask question on a thread where somebody desperately needs input. Have some morality.

Hearty congratulations!

1) Did you took CS related course throughout 4 years of your degree course?

2) Usually, in non-CS, non-IT, computer related courses are not more than 6 months or 1 year. Wondering, relating job duties to course with short period of time would be helpful?

3) Did you also convert 3 years of experience to one year of computer education?

I believe once you have more than 5 years of experience, an experienced attorney usually can turn it around even with non IT background.

Can you explain, how it can be turned around for guys with experience more than 5 years?

Topic: NON Computers(CS or IT) Background cases in California Service

Just 2 weeks back, one of my close friend and colleague with Civil degree got his H1 extended for 3 years.

I not sure of not sure if non-CS or non-IT will be issue.

Others can chime in if they have seen any issue in extension due to degree, field mismatch.

Topic: EAD vs H1b continuing

The only good point with H1 is if your I485 gets denied then you can stay in US through end of your visa while on EAD, you need to leave US asap.

Using EAD has more benefits than cons.
1) No H1 transfer issue
2) No H1 renewals
3) No stamping H1 stamping needed in home country(important one)
4) No H1 amendments
5) No Site visits

You are lucky that you got EAD so soon being from Pakistan. I am in queue since last 9 years and my only goal is to get EAD. GC seems pie in the sky.

Topic: H1B denial tracker for indians returning back to India

Just yesterday, One of my close friend with Civil Engineer degree got his H1 extended for 3 years without any RFE. He is also my colleague.

But this doesn't mean that non-CS is not a flag. Be prepared and keep sharing thought as I my self is Chemical Er and working in IT and worried about next H1 which I will file in March/April.

What if they ask how your different degree (like Mechanical/Chemical Engineering) is related to your IT work? How to respond to this RFE?

How can a guy with Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Degree justify if his degree relates to his IT job? There are high chances of getting specialty occupation RFE for such folks.

Topic: H1B denial tracker for indians returning back to India

I think people are missing to mention their degree if this is same as the field they are working in.

Specialty occupation RFE may trigger if a guy with Mechanical Engineer, Chemical Engineering or Non-IT degree is working in IT.

Did anybody here such case and if yes then how to handle?

Topic: In GC queue: What is your Net Worth?

150k Cash, no house, not much in 401k a lot of sweat equity in a tech startup (millions) but cant divest for some more years. I already have my GC. Came here in 2010-- I feel I havent saved enough.

Just posting my low net worth so others can feel better and I can feel more motivated :D

Don't forget to add, asylum cell with internet and free food.

I think he is not asylum case. He probably got it by EB1C. Whatever it, GC is GC which is also gateway to increase your net worth.

Topic: H1 Extension Denied because of educational back ground

I would never recommend based on receipt. Let H1 transfer complete successfully.

Do you have education evaluation done for your Mech degree? Usually it's submitted when we file new one. You can submit the same for answer RFE.

Topic: Engineering job, Finance job H1B transfer

When you say "transfer" I am assuming you already have H1 job and want new job. so why to worry so much. Any way you need to face the same one day with extension also.
