Topic: H4 EAD case

As I said, this admin is looking for every opportunity to curb the legal immigration to show the jobs to appease their base. So even if we say 55K EADs per year, with 85K H1Bs the total will be 140K jobs per year. Most of these are the white collar and high paying jobs and Americans want to do these jobs unlike most of DACA unskilled jobs.

Topic: H4 EAD case

I empathize H4 EAD holders. But I believe the repeal of H4EAD is on the radar. At the moment, no one is talking about it because it is a small fish compared to DACA. Someone mentioned that only 200K EADs are issued under H4 EAD. But this number can grow because every day hundreds of thousands of people are entering this country and filing for the green card regardless the long waiting queue. This admin is talking about curbing the legal immigration like family sponsored, or any kind of visa. I don't think they will excuse H4EAD. But this is just my opinion. It is always good to be prepared for the worse.

Topic: H1B fraud as per Kumar

I have watched a few of his videos. He sounds like a bitter person, but he has mentioned the facts about these desi consulting firms. He is indirectly telling Indians not to come here. The issue is not with people coming from India, the issue is with the desi managers with green card/citizenship here. They are the ones doing all the fraud. Their green card should be canceled and sent home.

Topic: Smart people return to India!

You are right. I am glad to know you are able to see multiple folds of career. Most of the people here think, managers means only doing excel documents and performance appraisals. But there is much more than that in a managerial role. Good management comes with good leadership. And everyone cannot possess leadership skills. By heart, I am a hardcore techie but I am not afraid to get into new areas that add value to the company and my career. I used to have a mind set that managers are useless, and that is true with so called EB1C managers from Indian outsourcing companies. Work with FTE managers in best American companies and you understand Technical knowledge is one part of your job and there is much more to learn.

I am not saying, there is no career progression for techies. I am saying a Techie should expand his/her horizons rather than just sticking to the coding. Expand your expertise to more areas along with great coding/technical skills. We are in the age of machines doing most of the work and automation is in big time. Invent some great products like that, you will be always in demand.

What is wrong with management? I am not pushing anyone to do management, it is an art and everyone can't do it like everyone can't be a techie. I am not saying about resource management. There are many technical managers like senior architects, enterprise architects, and these roles definitely require strong technical expertise. When we gain more experience, we also draw more salary. An employer doesn't want to spend 150K on a developer, they would rather give that role to someone younger who is available for cheaper price. If you are in a niche technology, you will get a job anyway regardless of age and I have seen many examples. But how many people always get an opportunity to get hands on experience on niche technology every time? Secondly, there are a lot of opportunities to grow like being domain and functional expert along with technical knowledge which will help you expand your horizons like getting into pre-sales, domain experts etc. Change is the only constant thing in life, in my opinion, people should be open minded about entering into new areas as the career progresses. Looks like your idea of managers is nothing but excel files. Don't jump to conclusions by looking at the bad examples in WITCH companies or Desi consultants. Look at people who became Sr Directors, VPs, CTOs from a Developer level. Are they doing stupid management job? If you think so, then start building your own products like google and apps. You will always be in demand. Mediocre talent takes you nowhere.

What do mean by a tech-centric role? A developer? Why do you still want to be a developer in 40s?

I don't know why most of the people here say, it is the end of the world in Tech Industry after the 40s. I don't think it is true. The problem is, most of the guys you see get comfortable with their job and don't make an effort to move to the next level. IT field is very dynamic and you have to keep up with changing trends. I see many guys in their 40s and even 50s in IT field with a successful career. It has nothing to do with age, a right mind set is important. It is very sad to see, most of the guys over here pour their pessimistic ideas and create the negative environment. That's why I stopped visiting this website often.

Topic: Surprise visit by USCIS officers

I agree 100% with you. The possibility is someone might have reported him as a fraud.

@ OP - Sorry to hear about your situation. I can understand the stress caused by this kind of situations. Are you from one of those WITCH companies? At the moment, WITCH companies have a very bad reputation. So I wouldn't be surprised if there are any unusual visits. If you got the green card in a genuine way then you should be fine. Talk to an attorney if you want to have peace of mind.

Check Western Governors University (WGU). It doesn't need any GRE but you still have to give TOEFL. It is a competency based education, regionally accredited and affordable. It is 100% online.

In fact, IELTS is not that tough. If you put a little bit of practice you can easily score a band of 8 or 8.5. And the highest band in IELTS is 9.

Topic: In GC queue: What is your Net Worth?

I know, 145K in the bank account is a bad idea. Out of 145K, I kept 30K as an emergency fund. I don't touch this amount no matter what. This is strictly for any unexpected emergencies like job loss, major health issues or any other major expense. I kept this amount in a high yield savings account where I get 1% interest. Then I allocated around 70K as down payment for the home in the US, I was supposed to buy last year but I backed out due to Trump era and visa issues. I work as an FTE in a relatively stable job, I guess I should think about investing in buying home. Also, I don't want to transfer all my money to India. I want to invest here also. At the moment, 50% of my network is in the US and 50% is in India.

Topic: In GC queue: What is your Net Worth?

It's an interesting thread. I don't think talking about net worth is bragging. It is always nice to look back and see what we have achieved in life and where we stand with the current world. The comparison doesn't always have to be in terms of money, but in all aspects.

Coming to my net worth in $$$, I have:

Cash in Bank Accounts - 145K
401K - 98K
House in India - 200K
Land in India - 50K
Bank Balance in India - 15K
Gold - 15K
Investments in India Current Value - 15K

So that comes to a total of 538K USD. I turned 40 last month, single. I came to US 10 years ago. I think I still haven't achieved my goal. My goal is to retire anytime without sweating on how to survive. I am not there yet, hopefully, I will be there in 10 years.

I have traveled quite a lot to different continents both on work and pleasure. Taking care of parents in India and help siblings financially whenever necessary. I have no regrets so far but sometimes I feel i m not investing correctly.

Topic: Max start date for GC Process

Correct. The PERM process usually needs 6 months for prep work before filing the application. Some cases it will take more time, depending on your employer. Your priority date counts only from the time the PERM application is filed, the prep work time doesn't count. So it is better to start ASAP if you can because it is already late for you to start as you have only 16 months left, means only 4 months for prep work. In the current scenario, it will be really tricky and tough to find an employer to file your green card within short notice. You should talk to your current employer and negotiate if they already promised you. You should also count your vacation time out of the country when you are calculating the number of days on your visa left.

Topic: Max start date for GC Process

The safest bet is to file your perm application 365 days before your 6 yrs validity expires. This way you can extend your visa one year at a time until your I-140 is approved.

Topic: Big4 vs WITCH

Just one word.. RUN AWAY from Witches. I have never worked for them but I closely monitor their work as my company has outsourced some work to 2 WITCH companies. They have disgusting work culture and ethic. They are horrible to work with, I get frustrated dealing with them. Working for them??? I can't even imagine.
