Topic: Immigration Reform is coming soon

In 3 weeks we all will get to know if there will be any legal immigration reform or not.

Demi would like to do 2 phase immigration reform:
1st phase: Take DACA and give wall and some other border protection measures
2nd phase: Get legal status for rest of 11+ million illegal immigrants and may be agree to ending chain migration and diversity visa. This can become never ending process and can go till midterm elections.

Republicans knows that once they give DACA, no way they can get any immigration reform done and that's why they are not allowing DACA for only border wall. This deal was on table before government shutdown and Republicans didn't take this deal.

Republicans want to do DACA only after getting border wall + border security + ending chain migration + ending diversity visa + getting merit based migration.

Republicans have got their wall. Let's see what else they can get. If deadlock continues then midterm will decide our fate. If Democrats win then say bye bye to legal immigration reform. If Republicans win then we will get legal immigration reform for sure soon after mid term.

We legal immigrant community should try to help GOP to win midterm. There is no point in doing virtue signaling and giving support to Dems in public. Our demand is removing backlog and moving towards merit based immigration and only GOP can give us that. Let's be open about it. Use your social media to say good word about GOP when it comes to merit based immigration reform. I am sure GOP big data analyst would pick up our open support on social media which can help us.

Amazes me when smart people take politician's words during campaign as gospel truth.

I don't care about issues not pertaining to me.

I was glad to see that GOP didn't blink first during this shutdown. Now even CNN is asking Dems why did they blink first and let go DACA and allowed govmnt funding for next 3 weeks.

I am very sure regarding passage of merit based immigration in next 3 weeks. The terms may be tough and may exclude people who are working with H1B dependent companies and paid less than 100k but a bill is imminent now.

Immigration attorneys are not billion $ companies. They no way can diktat American immigration policy. Country cap started hurting Desis only after desi out sourcing companies started using H1Bs.

My company will be more than happy to have system where immigratnt employees can get GC ASAP as apart from paying our salary they have to spent money on our immigration status . My company can easily save immigration processing cost if we get GC faster. My company lawyer is just an employee and no way diktats company's policy forget he representing corporate America.

Desi companies pay low wages cause they always include immigration costs as part of their business expense as their business model depends upon H1Bs. That's why when someone gets GC from desi company, they start trying to get FTE position with American company and after getting FTE job they became anti-desi outsourcing companies.

Not corporate America, only H1B dependent desi companies.

American companies go out of their way to help people on H1B and also process GC without any issues. My company lawyers always tell me they feel so bad for me whenever I am doing paper work for H1B extension. Recently I met an infosys guys who is desperately looking for FTE job with American companies as Infy is not doing his GC and his 6 yrs are going to get over soon.

Can we get practical here. Initially 11+ million illegal wanted some kind of legal protection but now they understood that only Dreamers have some chance to get any legal protection.

There will be no law to automatically grant GC to everybody in the queue. If anything will happen, it will only happen for H1Bs working for non-H1B dpendent companies and getting pay more than 100k or we all will need to submit to new process.

I am very practical and only hope for a merit based or point based immigration system without country cap which may help me to get GC in 5-6 years. My I140 got approved 3 years back hence I am not losing much but I do feel bad for people stuck in long GC queues and still waiting . We also need to get ready for salary cap of atleast 100k to qualify as high skilled immigrants to get any immigration benefits in future.

There are people on TPS for 10+ years and going to loose protection real soon. It doesn't matter what happened in past, what matters is what will be the new laws.

You don't have to marry him also he is politician and never trust a politician.

He is GOP senate member and close to Trump so he is very powerful. He knows about country cap issue which causes huge backlog for desi ppl and openly spoken about it in the media so he is well aware of issues we are facing.

Give me one reason why IV should not use its full power to encourage Kevin Yoder and Tom Cotton to openly speak about country cap issue now.

Read this article. Below article mentions House as biggest loser as House does whatever Senate tells them to do. This is why 300+ co-sponsor for a bill in House means nothing.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/22/politics/mcconnel...

GOP senate member will tell GOP House member what kind of immigration bill they want and GOP House will submit the immigration bill desired by Senate GOP member. Senator Tom Cotton understand GC backlog issue for desi ppl and he also spoke about it in media.

IV members, stop calling House members, talk to Senator Tom Cotton. He can be your best ally and ditch that Lemon who has worked with Dems.

H1B will be reformed as part of immigration reforms and I feel H1B may be replaced with merit based immigration where salary cap and skill set will decide H1B priority list. Going forward WITCH comanies will be last to get H1Bs after they meet salary cap of atleast 100k per annum.

We all are not going to get GC just like that but I will anyway prefer strict but fair system over loopholes filled system which is unfair.

Time for cold calling is gone. Politicians are perfect in art of political correctness. They will agree to everything but will they really do is big question. Dems hv called DACA illegal before but now their tune is totally different.

Right now if IV is serious lobbying group then they should talk to somebody like Senator Tom Cotton who is open Trump supporter to make sure removal of country in Employment base GC should be part of any immigration bill.

300 co-sponsorship for bill means 0 if nobody is going to bring it for voting. As of now there is so much talk on DACA even when there is no DACA bill. Only thing matters is top GOP leadership agreeing to something and that is what a lobbying group should target.

I sometime feel that one day country cap will be removed by US congress just because in today's world it doesn't make sense and IV will take credit for it.

Dems are going to vote to reopen the government until 8th Feb. GOP has promised Dems to introduce DACA bill before 8th Feb. This is the last window of opportunity for any legal immigration reform. If Diversity Visa and Chain migration is not replaced merit based immigration without country cap this time then forget any immigration reform for next 10 years. If any IV member is reading this post then tell IV leadership that this is the last chance they are going to get to enforce any legal immigration reform.

We legal immigrants don't hv to feel bad about shutdown at all. It should be illegal immigrants and Dems who are direct responsible for this shutdown. Any worker who losses paycheck or jobs due to shutdown should be angry with democrats because they choose to shutdown America for illegal immigrants. Last night even Fareed Zakariav(CNN) acknowledged that Dems position on immigration is extreme left and even French liberal PM Macron suggests tough immigration laws.

My Jamaican colleague's daughter is in army and he votes to democrat. Even he was livid that why Dems choose to shutdown government for immigrants forget they are legal or illegal.

We are just happy that extreme left position on immigration didn't win and may be we will see merit based immigration real soon without country cap.

Great that shutdown has happened. It is clear that GOP doesn’t want clean DACA bill. GOP will give DACA in return of removing Chain Migration + Diversity VISA and moving towards merit based immigration system. For a while I was worried that GOP will do DACA in return of getting wall funding. Glad to see GOP sticking to their guns. In couple of months we should have merit based immigration and H1B reform like salary cap and all that.

Trump admin will go to SC to remove stay on DACA . Once DACA is finally shutdown then Dems have to work with GOP to get DACA by allowing GOP to do merit based Immigration. We need to wait till tomorrow to know what Senator Hatch is proposing.

Visionaries are Trail Blazers and they impact society not vice versa. In fact visionaries don’t care about society and do their own things which is sometime way ahead then what is practiced by society they live in. FYI: the biggest visionary of modern time is Mahatma Gandhi who wore a simple dhoti.

Topic: H.R. 392, Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act

Senator Cotton recently spoke about Indians stuck in GC queue. I will take that as a good sign as it tells me that top GOP politicians are aware about the issue we desi face.

In case Government shuts down or their is a short term fix to keep spending going then in both cases both parties have to work on permanent solution on DACA and immigrantion. I feel that GOP is able to convince American people that merit based immigration is better hence GOP leaders are openly speaking about it. We should see a bill in Feb.

Did you study Math? Do you know something called Ratio? We are merely 1% of American population but our representation in leadership field in every aspect of American society is huge. Take any field and just Google and you will find Indian-American doing so well in every area. If Farm work is not bad then you should respect all kind of work. Not sure why you are using derogatory term for Desis working in IT. You should respect them too :)

Desis are in rate race(rat race) and we are proud of it. The world is dog eat dog world run by single minded focus individual who let go so-called balanced life aka mediocrity to achieve higher goals in life.

If balance life means doing a janitor job 8-5 and then letting go steam at pub or golf then best of luck mate. We Desis are going to work harder to be leaders and rule over mediocre people like you.
