Hi there,

Yes, once you have an interview scheduled, the background clearance is basically done. You will get your interview probably sometime in May or June. Good luck. Thank you!

Thank you. During the interview the USCIS officer will tell you about the retrogression, and whether you have to wait until the retrogression will finished or whether you will received it soon. Good luck. Thank you!

Hi there,

The interview is going to be very easy. Do not worry. My interview was held on 19 of March for about 20-25 minutes at best, and I did apply under the EB2-NIW. I personally very much did enjoy from the interview, and USCIS officer was very nice and pleasant person. He will go basically through your I-485 document, and you will have to answer yes or no. Make sure you are familiar with your I-485 document. He will ask you very basic questions. If you are in research, the USCIS officer might ask you what type of research you are doing. That is basically all. Yes, you will get your GC once your priority day will become current (but please check with your lawyer about the retrogression). Bring all the documents that it is in the notice, and you will be fine. Make sure you have original birth certificate. USCIS officer did ask me to show him my original birth certificate. Make sure you have a recent employment letters, two to three latest paycheck, and also two to three W-2 form (tax form), and that is basically all. Bring also the copy of your recent google citation record as well as the papers that you have published so far. Good luck. Thank you!

Topic: Estimated approval time for I-140

Last year. TSC received my I-140 on 17 of July 2017, and it was approved on 13 of September 2017. I received a letter of approval on 17 of September 2017. Thank you!

It is impossible to predict. For some it does take a few weeks, for others almost or even more than a year. For my case, it took 57 days without a single RFE. I was under EB2-NIW category. Good luck. Thank you!

Topic: Steps after getting GC

Hi there again,

I forgot to say that my immigration lawyer said to me that I can and I will apply for the naturalization and citizenship in December 2022, so I need to to be in science at least until 2023 and this is the year that I will get my interview (once you will apply for the citizenship it takes about 6 to 8 months for the interview at least for now), but I do not know how long I have to wait for the interview in 2023. Thank you!

Hi there,

This is what my immigration lawyer said to me too that you can change the field after about a year or so, but I personally will not recommend to change the field until you become the citizen of the USA. Thank you!

Topic: Steps after getting GC

Hi there,

Most stay in science between 6 to 12 months after they received they green card. They did left academia, and switched to pharmaceutical companies. So they still in science, but not in academia, but in pharmaceutical companies. Also, take in account that it is very hard to stay in science and working in research laboratory all the time. Almost impossible. I am working in my research institute since July 2015, and I did receive my green card in March 2018. My contract with my research institute is until January 2020. What will happened after January 2020, I do not know, since I did not talk to my current boss about it. Perhaps I can continue working in the same research institute, or I will have to switch to another academic institution, which I hope will not be a problem. Thank you!

Hi there,

I think if you are under the EB1A or EB2-NIW categories since these two are self-petition, you do not need even a job in the first place. I remembered during my interview that I had last month with the USCIS officer, the USCIS officer said to me that people who did apply under these categories do not need to have a job in the first instance. Some of my friends who have received their green cards in our research institute left science within the first few months to 6 months at best. Leaving the current job/s after obtaining the GC, only matter if you did apply under the EB1B, EB2, EB3. Thank you!

Hi there,

The priority day is the day that you have started your GC process. It usually then USCIS received your I-140 case or if you submitted to PERM/Labor Certification Stage, depends under which category you did apply. You do not get priority day for I-485, but recipient day. Good luck. Thank you!

Hi there,

Historically TSC is far more faster than NSC. Yes you will not get your GC unless your priority day is current again, and with retrogression it will take even longer than a year. I have some friends from the research institute that I am working, with EB1A or EB1B that can not get their GC because of the retrogression. Some with second or even with third retrogression. Good luck. Thank you!

Topic: December 2017 I-485 filers

Hi there,

Once your EAD/AP approved, the next step is the interview schedule. I personally would not travel and risk myself. I do not know what type of visa you have at the moment, but in my case I had my J-1 visa. If I was travelling with EAD card, my J-1 visa had to be cancel, and I would be only with EAD card. In case if my I-485 was denied or was not approved, my EAD would be terminated automatically, and if I do not have any valid non-immigrant visa, then I will be out of status. That is why our international office in my research institute suggested me not to travel even with EAD card, unless it is extremely urgent. Good luck with your interview. Thank you!

Topic: January 2018 I-485 Filers

Hi there,

Did you check a new web site for your case. (https://my.uscis.gov/). Usually then the case is transfer to NBC, it takes about 2 to 4 months for the interview to be scheduled, but sometime it might take longer. Ready for interview scheduling, means that you will have your interview sometime soon with the local USCIS officer. The background check should be completed a while ago once you did your biometrics. I assume that you did your biometrics back in January. The I-485 is an independent process from combo card (EAD/AP combo card), and some of my friends did receive their green card even before they were issued the combo card. But once you have your green card, you do not need a combo card. Good luck for the interview. Thank you!

Good luck for the interview. That was quick. My interview was two months after it was transfer to NBC from TSC. Thank you!
