Topic: I-485 interviews for SF bay area

I had my interview in the Santa Clara office, right across the San Jose airport. Came 30 minutes before the interview, and got in 15 minutes before my scheduled appointment. The interviewer was very friendly. She came out for me, shook my hand, showed me to her office. The interview took about 20 minutes in total.

As was previously said, I have been asked only questions from the I-485 form:
1. Name, DOB, whether I am still at the same address. I was asked couple of times if I have another name.
2. Am I married, do I have children. Do I have any children that were not part of the marriage. Children question was also asked one more time in the middle of the interview.
3. Do I work for the same company.
4. Some questions from the medical exam. My TB skin test was "undetermined", so I explained that I did chest x-ray and it came back negative.
5. Yes/No questions from the I485 form.

The interviewer have verified my original birth certificate and my new passport (I have recently renewed my passport). I have provided the following documents: letter of employment, tax transcript for 2016, and a copy of my new passport.

At the end of the interview I was told that everything looks in order and I was given a paper saying that my case need further review (don't recall the exact words, forgot this paper at work). The interviewer have also told me that I should check my status online in 2 days because she is planning to finalize everything on the day of the interview. She sounded very reassuring.

Overall it was a very good experience, the interviewer was very professional and experienced in her field

So do you anticipate to receive 3 letters from USCIS after the interview:
1. I-797 Notice of Action saying that I-485 got approved,
2. Welcome letter,
3. The actual GC?

BTW, my USCIS login suddenly got blocked yesterday. The reason: too many incorrect login attempts. Are you also getting similar message?

Can you please elaborate a little bit more about this E-Verify? I just tried myE-Verify, but I could not sign up to it because it could not generate enough information for the quiz. Perhaps I was doing something different than what you meant.

Did you check your E-Verify? Could you please provide a link where I could check the status?

Yes, sorry, the 4.2.a and 4.2.b that I was mentioning are indeed on the G-28. If you have both boxes checked then your GC will be sent to your attorney.

It is actually on the I-485 form itself, Part 4.

If you check 4.2.a - the notices will be sent to your attorney, but the GC will be sent to you.
If you check 4.2.b - the GC will be sent to your attorney.

Btw, please let me know when you or your attorney get your GC. I would be very interested in knowing the timeline between interview to GC in hand.

You actually specify on the I485 form itself whom you want your GC being sent to. If you have a copy of your I485 you could check what was selected there.

Topic: March 2017 I-485 filers

I got 2 messages one after another with a gap of 1 day in between. When I got the second message it didn't mean that I had my interview scheduled. As a matter of fact, I got 'interview scheduled' message only about 6 weeks later. The actual interview is abou 5 weeks after the 'interview scheduled' message. I don't think it matters if you get 1 or 2 messages.

One more thing. After you take the oath at the beginning of the interview, if you don't bring a lawyer, you would need to sign a paper saying that you represent yourself. This should not intimidate you. You are not in the court room, neither you are in a job interview. All the questions are known in advance: all of them will be coming from I485 form itself. You would simply need to provide a bit more information than the one that was already submitted with I485: such as W2s, verification (letter) of employment, etc.

I am not familiar EB1A case, but if you have everything legit you shouldn't need a layer. The interview is to verify that:
1. All evidence you have submitted is legit,
2. Your status is still eligible for GC,
3. You are a sane person.
The interviewer is not allowed to ask your layer any questions. Also, I think it would be rude for the lawyer to interfere the officer by saying that something is not relevant for your case. I would say the lawyer is needed during the interview to boost your self confidence. You decide if it is worth $3000 dollars or not.
If I were you I would contact my lawyer and ask him on how he could be helpful during the interview.

Tax returns are not needed when filing the 485, but ARE needed for the interview. The interview notice has explicitly asked to bring tax returns for the last 3 years.

If yiou got the notice for the interview, you must go to the interview. My company layer received it a week or two after I did. Perhaps she received it earlier, but she was busy and therefore notified me at a later time. In any case, interview notice is good news. Even if your wife did not receive hers yet, she should come with you, assuming you are the main applicant.

Agree ... it probably also depends on the office ... my office (San Jose) is suppose to be congested, but from what I hear they are going strong ... so respect to the people working in the San Jose office and keeping up with the great work :)

I believe the interview schedule is prioritized based on RD. Your RD date is end of June, and now they are interviewing people in May. I believe this is normal. You should have your interview in about 1-2 months.
