Did you file with a lawyer or law firm?

If you filed a G-28 the lawyer should get the interview letter too and he can notify you. The interview is usually several weeks away anyway. I got my letter the 15th of December and the interview was on the 11th of Jan.

Topic: New Card Is Being Produced

I guess the question is more like: "Does 'Card in production' mean that 485 is approved and you are an LPR now" ?

Topic: New Card Is Being Produced

I have a question. After "New Card is Being Produced" are you already considered an LPR? Is the date on the green card (issue date or date on approval letter) usually the one when the case goes to "New Card is Being Produced" or a later date?

Mine and wife’s case have been approved as well yesterday
Good luck to everybody in this thread that didn’t get it yet. For us we were approved exactly 21 days after the interview

Topic: Smoking pot in Calafornia and Green Card??

In California pot is legal, this means that local police will not stop or arrest you if you have pot with you. At a federal level though pot is still illegal and if you are stopped by a federal agent and he finds pot on you can be arrested and very likely deported and probably banned from the US. At a federal level it is still a very serious crime (it was never depenalized and it is a pretty draconian law agains pot federally)
Look at some stories like this one for how seriously federal agent can take it (https://globalnews.ca/news/3743970/marijuana-leg...). No other institution cares about pot usage (hospitals for example, they will never report you)

That said , federal agents are a fairly rare sight. Unless you live near a border(lets say San Diego, where you can find CBP agents patrolling the roads and stopping people for controls) you will probably never be stopped by a federal agent and even if you are, unless you are crossing a border the chances that you will be questioned or searched for pot are low.

So, to summarize:

Yes, if you are caught by a federal agent with weed you can be in big trouble. The rules are still there and are pretty draconian.
In practice though the possibility of being caught federally is low. If you are careful in never crossing a state border with pot and use it only while at home you shouldn't risk much. It's your call though of course :)

Waiting here too.

Interview on the 11th of Jan in SF. The interview seemed to go well. The officer told us that she will be finishing the review of the case and that we should get something in a few weeks, max 30 days.

She also mentioned that it could take up to 120 days in some cases and that we should wait before that date to open an SR, but that in our case she didn't think that would be the case.

Went to my interview today.

It seemed to be ok. We went in together me and my wife (even if we had to separate interview notices)

Total time was about 40 mins.

The IO asked about the job for me, last time of entry I-94 and confirmed all the information for me and my wife (name, address, name of parents, being a terrorist, communist and what not). She made us sign the documents to confirm they are correct.

The IO then proceeded to ask about our marriage, asked for the Marriage certificate, confirmed the bona fide docs. Asked if we had an update of the docs I sent with the application (those were about 6-7 months old) but I didn't have any updated docs for the bank statements to confirm that those accounts are still alive. The IO said it was ok and proceeded to copy some of the documents and the Birth certificate originals.

She told us that we should expect a final decision in less then 30 days judging from the case, but if any extra info is gonna be required she will contact us via email (I guess via RFE). It could take up to 120 days though after which we can make an inquiry.

Then she gave us the receipt and sent us home

Topic: I485 - Case Was Transferred to NBC

I have a question for those that received the interview date already.

Did your case go through the "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview" stage or you got your interview date when it was in the "Transferred to another office" stage?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure USCIS email status updates are coming from templates. They do not necessarily reflect your exact situation. So your background check could very well being terminated and the email just says "Initial Review" because it's coming from a template they use when they transfer cases.

Considering that usually from transfer to interview it takes about 2 months that would just fall on Christmas Day! :(

I'm also in a similar situation. I already booked my flights before the whole interview thing came out. I'll have to decide what to do . Maybe I can move them once I know the date or if I'm lucky I can do the interview before (or after) my trip.

This interview thing though has been a major inconvenience already

@shranger and surfer123

Interesting, thanks guys for sharing.

My case for the second update went to "On October 26, 2017, we transferred your Form I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS, Receipt Number LIN17904XXXXX, to another USCIS office. "

Not local office then. Maybe they require some more time for reviewing the case there or your case was already progressed more at NSC, who knows ... anyway, waiting :D

Local office?

Does it state that explicitly? When was your original transfer date to NBC (if any)?

Our cases moved again yesterday. Now it went from "Transferred to another office" to "Case was transferred and New office has Jurisdiction"

So, two movements in two days (probably this means that the case actually "landed" in the new office, that supposedly is NBC)

THE scary part is the email saying that the status is “Initial Review”. Is that an error? If the case is transferred for interview it should be well past “Initial Review” ... in theory ...
