'Jai Amreeka' rhetoric, author's other book also seems to do some previous admin bashing w.r.t immigration reform.

Topic: I-485 nostalgia

That was the best time of my life. Had just started my first fulltime job in a new happening city in the US after graduate school. Made new friends and really 'lived' the work-hard party-hard life. Very few cares in the world, drove a beat up old car but didn't care. Looked fwd to the weekends to relax, pub crawl and play poker. I hated most of my life (in some form or another) until then but that period was the best ever. I was actually earning and had the freedom to explore and contemplate life in coffee shops & book stores. Am more of an introvert and I loved living alone. By a freak act of luck my manager at that time told me to get the GC started. I said sure, why not - didn't know much and didn't care. Had dreams of buying a motorcycle and seeing the country - maybe even ride up to the Canadian rockies...

Fast fwd 10 years: house, spouse, 2 kids and lots of gray hair. Not to mention a boat load of family drama and having all kinds of issues with folks back home. Finally got the GC but so f***ing burned out with life I went home and just stared at it for a long time alone.

These days taking a shit in peace seems like a blessing! I've decided to go to a monastery in Nepal for my 40th birthday :) Ask me 10 years ago and I would've said "Rio/Cancun"...sigh Mannnnn that was a good rant - thanks for asking!

Topic: GC Backlog Analysis - If Quota is Eliminated

I seriously doubt this. EO for immigration might target illegal immigrants and possibly those with criminal records. stuff will get challenged in courts for sure. wait 3 weeks and you will wonder why you worried so much. I am not saying all this is un-concerning but the level of paranoia in these forums is getting out of hand. I am sure people (w/ families) are having sleepless nights due to this fear mongering.

You are underestimating the power of the $. That's what makes things happen. Else UAE and Pakistan would be on the list of banned countries. I understand some people may have strong opinions but these people at the top know the elite actually gain a lot by having cheap skilled labor imported. Once the uproar over this publicity stunt dies down it will be business as usual.

Topic: Where is the dreaded EO for legal immigrants?

People, please remain calm and think. No EO is going to target the H1-B/H4EAD. The people in the administration are shrewd businessmen and know such an order will in fact hurt their wealthy donors more than anything. This is all just noise and will die down soon. EO targeted at Illegal immigrants and those here with criminal records is possible. In fact there are bills being presented to actually help the legal immigrants get GCs faster with SO. Don't let this ruin your weekend!

Topic: H.R. 392, Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act

a small group *may* influence but cannot dictate policy for ever. remember that these are very smart people who have wealthy donors who stand to gain A LOT from skilled immigration. if you are a legitimate knowledge worker in this country you will be needed and won't have any problems. please go about your daily life and enjoy a turn in the tide, to your advantage. disregard the fear mongering, sharpen your skills and look fwd to a prosperous future for your family in this country. life is too wonderful to spent worrying like this!

This should get through with the help of Silicon Valley also. They want backlogs cleared and want more skilled immigrants. Refugees will take a backseat while Indians and Asians stand to gain by way of public policy. It's about time -

Topic: No h1b exec order.breaking news

even if this gets signed the only thing which will come out of it will be recommendations. similar to that EO about the wall. one cannot put holds on things like GC's and H1b's etc inspite of that publicity stunt last Friday. 1/10 of these 'drafts' will actually become an EO - the world doesn't stop due to stunts. the bills are going to help Indians in the queue and get them GC faster, I won't be surprised if tech companies lobby hard to make it go in their favor.

our neighborhoods will have much more indians and asians in 5yrs than today - that's for sure :)

Topic: No h1b exec order.breaking news

I am pretty sure there won't be an EO for legal immigrants (and their dependents). The bills will also get watered down to the point where they become insignificant for those already here in the US. IMO this is all noise, before you know it Spring Break will be here and you will be enjoying the weather :)

Topic: Take a Chill !!

I share the same concerns as everyone else. Only time will tell, but by worrying about it can you do anything? I am an optimist - because that's more advantageous to me than being a pessimist and not being able to think clearly, in the middle of all this fear mongering. I am almost certain 90% of the H1-Bs working for American Co's will be ok even with these bills etc. There will be amendments etc until the noise dies down.

Based on the Friday EO everyone thinks all rules will change lightning fast. Friday EO is more of a publicity stunt in my opinion. Right now it's a toss up - I bet this will be good for Indian immigrants in the long run.

Topic: Take a Chill !!

India has much better relations with the US than most other countries. Everyone is going to waste hours worrying and then regret it when this all amounts to nothing. Life goes on as usual. We will have bills passed for Fairness etc and those might end up helping Indian citizens more than anything else. The best days might be ahead of us - just give it a rest guys!

Topic: Stop Panicking !!

I agree that there is cause for concern but this fear mongering is getting too much.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that no EO will target the legitimate H1-B employees. Come back next week and this might have all just died down. We will all wonder why we wasted so much time and effort needlessly worrying. India imports a lot of stuff from America and this is not lost on those making executive decisions.

Topic: HR392 - Eliminate per-country numerical limitation

right on!

This is the nail in the coffin for this bill "....to increase the per-country numerical limitation for family-sponsored immigrants..." (https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/hou...). Wish they had just kept it limited to employment-based. Hope they don't use this as a bargaining chip for something else.

They need to clean up the EB1C abuse and allow for SO to EB2/3.

How about a bill to ask for "Fairness for H1-B for ROW countries"? No country can consume more than 7% of H1B quota / yr.

Topic: Mar-2017 VISA bulletin Predictions

I hope this goes through as many families would benefit. But we have to remember WHY the 7% limit is there in the first place. It's to have a balanced immigration inflow and not have 1/2 countries dominate the system. Hopefully not too many politicians would harp about this and let it fly by.

Topic: PD porting with change in title

Yes it's possible , just make sure the new job requirements qualify for EB2. You cannot also use experience gained at the same company towards Eb2 requirements. Just make sure it's 'same company' and not 'same location'. Please consult a lawyer -

I like your optimistic take on this but what about one country not getting more than 7% of the quota? How would that affect PD moving fwd even if there is massive SO?
