Topic: STEP BY STEP - How to Immigrate to Canada

Let me take a shot at that.
When you get a PR visa - you have 6 months to enter Canada and claim your PR . Because the visa is only valid for 6 months.
Once you have established yourself as PR - you have to live 2 years ( out of every 5 years ) in Canada in order to meet your residency requirement.

So what happens if your CRS is above cut off and you receive an invite ? Does that mean your application is most likely to be approved ? and How long does it take for a decision ?

Shameful that you had to resort to a religion / culture to get even at some one . Speaks about your upbringing more than anything else.

Of course he would have got a Mexican visa to visit Mexico.
(I think ) what he means is using EAD/AP card to re enter US after visiting Mexico is an easy process and should not stop one from travelling abroad.

Topic: JAN-2018 Visa Bulletin

EB4 and EB5 have only been extended until Dec 22 - what would the Jan visa bulletin have for them ?
What if congress extends them after Dec 22 - its not known yet so there cannot be any dates for those categories. The VB might have to wait until it is known whether the program is open in January

Does your spouse work ?

Topic: In GC queue: What is your Net Worth?

I don't think anyone of us here can realistically expect to see $5 million in their lifetime.
1.8 million is way more than one can expect to live comfortably almost anywhere.

What about retiring in India in a small town ?

Topic: In GC queue: What is your Net Worth?

Came here in '08. Spent 5 years in grad school doing research, became a contractor without 401K matching for a heavy equipment manufacturer in the midwest in a low COL city. Currently have $70K cash saved over the last 4 years. Single income, one kid. Hoping for the GC to open up many new opportunities.

Are you in your early 30's ?
How much one has saved is also relative to ones age.

Topic: Work on TN visa & get GC when date is current?

As many have also mentioned that a TN visa is unlikely to work for an Indian national like you where the goal is to obtain US GC.

Bottomline is a TN and a pending GC application do not go hand in hand. and applying for one one while other is pending is fraught with risk that could result in a denial for both.

If you want to move to Canada while an immigrant petition has been filed on your behalf - you either need an AP that was approved prior to your departure or an H1B that you can obtain while living in Canada.

Your best bet is to move to Canada and have an H1B that allow you to return.

Topic: December 2017 visa bulletin

so basically we have spent last three years in the month of Oct-Nov 2008.
You don't have to be a scientist to know that 2009 will easily take 5-6 years.

2010 and beyond is a lost cause anyway

Topic: DEC 2017 Visa Bulletin is Out

Starting January - there would be another 700 visas available in Q2. Wouldn't that be enough to clear cases in the month of NOv and some in Dec

Topic: H.R. 392, Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act

Its not about pulling out your own case!
With all cases subject to extra scrutiny and all EB1/EB ROW and porting cases being subjected to mandatory in person interviews, less number of cases would be eligible to receive a visa number within the FY, so the visa numbers unused in that FY would need to go to cases under categories that are ready to receive those ( i.e EB3 and EB2 that pre approved ) to avoid wastage.

Topic: H.R. 392, Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act

May not cause a lot of rejections but the extra scrutiny is more than likely to result in increased processing times . That along with the mandatory interviews for all new EB filers should result in less usage across those categories and therefore some spillover is anticipated.

Topic: December 2017 visa bulletin

Well, interview process is mandatory only for people filing for AOS on or after 6th March 2017.
EB2 dates are not current, so it would only be EB1 people(and EB3I who port and file AOS this year) facing interviews

Most EB2 2008/9 people have already filed AOS.

I agree. This would have the impact of reducing visa numbers going towards EB1 , EB3 porting and also EB2ROW .
Although unintentional - it would help EB2I folks waiting in line from years.
