Absolutely ..... hopefully the Dems will not sabotage it .... by saying they want all legal immigration changes to be put in Comprehensive Immi Reform

Sorry to bust your bubble and euphoria but NOTE that Immigration bills that have any realistic chance of passing will initiate from the Senate. Bills from the House are just distractions to appeal to the overall media, constituents and sponsors.

There will be no Immigration bill that includes a respite for the backlogged Indian community. The reason - there is not enough traction from the community nor is there any backing from industry.

DACA will happen with a border security and that's about it in this version. Adios!

Agree with your statement. Senate has far more leverage especially in current situation. We should watch for Senate bill which might get released end of this week.

I believe 140k first breaks using 40k for each EB1/2/3. A further 7% country cap is applied after that, so in other words,
0.07*40,000 = 2.8k in the new way it will be 0.07*50k = 3.5k i.e. for EB2 the increase is from 2800 to 3500.

EB4 and EB5 spills over into EB1. The EB1 backlog per inventory is roughly 50,000 (yes, i couldn't believe myself). So there is hardly going to be any spill over from there.

The only thing is horizontal spillover from EB2ROW to EB2I that will get a bit better.

How come Yoder's name does even come up in this immigration debate? Maybe he is doing some serious top secret backroom deals for HR 392..

Apparently Dems are already derailing it. They want that additional 50K of GCs to be given to TPS...what kind of creatures these guys are. Congress seems to be far better than these folks back in India.

The real problem of course is that Democrats really do want to do anything for skilled legal immigrants, even though they keep blathering about it - at least, Republicans will say it as they see. Only thing they do is cry racism for everything and do nothing.

Actually its the Democrats who dont want to help the legals ..... as they want to keep thier votebank in US as much as possible so they would rather give the 50k visas to the TPS refugees instead of the legal skilled ppl hopefully DT vetos this and gives skilled ppl the 50K visas

The worst thing is now they is talk about Phase 2 where all issues sf skilled immigrants will be handled.. But when will Phase 2 come??? No chance in this year.... There will no pressure to handle it at all! After midterm, Yoder if he is re-elected will just move on and who will take up HR 392?? It is not his bill anyway

The senate also wants to provide some status to dreamer parents, unbelievable to see the Texas senators are negotiating, as they are the one who challenged DACA in court in the first place. Nothing will be there for legals or H4 dreamers in the senate version.

The main thing is that very influential organizations like Google, UC Berkeley are all for DACA but nobody (other than IV, of course) for legals.

Exactly ! Unbelievable! I mean the parents came illegally as adults and yet they are finding some way for them re-enter legally! This is the definition of bs.

to mfd1402:

I think there are two bills floating around one is Congressman Goodlatte and another is Senator Jeff Flake's.

Goodlatte doesn't mention anything about TPS.

https://goodlatte.house.gov/news/documentsingle....

Goodlatte Bill Summary Page: https://judiciary.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2... (Summary has typo of 175000 , it should be 195000 as per Bill text)

Bill Text (read page 21)
https://judiciary.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2...

It seems at least ~18k more visas could be issued to each of the EB categories (55k more total)

Yayyyy !!!! hopefully Trumps rejection will force them to redirect the 50k visas to EB legal backlogs instead of refugees .....

Most likely the final bill will be a mixture .... we have to pray that the 50K extra visas get sent to the EB - backlogs and not to the TPS refugees ..... thats the best we can hope for
