We are ready and calling and doing things which was told. Donated also. But how long? My question is what's the IV stance in current Immigration discussion?

Based on yesterday call I think it;s tough. Thats might be the reason for urgent Advocacy event on 4th.

This is the right time guys, Trump admin can do anything, I start trusting them. Dems shows us carrot in last 8 years and failed to even pass a small i140 ead rule. Who ever thinking country quota will go away,I am wishing them good luck. I really want to see that day, In my opinion its not now. I want my myself to be wrong. But I am sure something can be do in current immigration talk and IV not involved there.. Why?

I have been in the US for more time than you have been. I started my GC pretty late, then had to stop it during the recession - financial industry and got a 2010 PD.

Every organization is different and there are leaders, and employees. You dont just walk into your CEO's office and start dictating strategy right? Think about it that way...If you are really passionate about other things, you or anyone can gather the troops for other changes, but removal of per-country cap is the easiest of them (doesnt mean it is easy). Only bill that doesnt increase total numbers, doesnt eat up family based, and has the potential to curb abuse.

Its your opinion, not mine and that doesnt mean you are right. You may follow them, its your choice, not stopping you. My question was, they setup Thursday call when immigration is hot and they are saying we are working on HR392 (what??). Which they are already update two months back. Which can be long shot, if succeed. But why legal point not including in current talk. You may be so long in this country and dependent on someone to speak on your behalf? Hope you understand, learn to speak. We are in hostile situation. wake up guys!!

The Ds would clear HR392 if it comes to the floor - on the House Committee where this bill is languishing, almost every D has supported this bill. Infact when there was a hearing on HR170, Zoe Lofgren (D) tried to push this bill through.
The problem is if you are not from India, Mexico, Philippines, or China - the immigration system is working perfectly. The only flaw is illegal immigration and therefore all the focus will be on fixing that aspect of it. We become an after thought.

Not sure what your point is. You were probably on the call...the call was to get more people to come to DC in Feb. because there is no DACA deal till now.

Are you saying they should not have kept a call? Or were you expecting them to give you better news?

Learn to speak? Really? what are you talking man?

Working on a bill is not like a creating a lego, it incudes working with individuals who don't care about us, I understand and repect your frustration though!
Legal Bill (HR392) was not in the last DACA deal because that is not on a critical path for those who matter. You already saw what happened to the bill today. In the hindsight the comments from the IV attorney were true, DACA bill is not moving anywhere by Jan 19.
Wake up and do what? Believe me those who are really awake, understand the reality and trying to do what they think is the right for the HR392 bill. I am new to IV and not at all their core supporter, but yesterday it was mentioned by Aman Kapoor "Power to all organizations (SIIA etc) who can get HR392 Passed". Do constructive stuff to make the bill move forward, call/meet your state senators or congressmen etc.

I am saying we should support HR392, I am with you. But do we have fall back. Same bill came 3-4 times in 6 years. First time passed in House. Now not even passing committee. Do you see it will pass this time? Just to let you know, Getting rid of country quote is very tough thing and it will take time(I am positive here). That doesn't mean, we shouldn't consider other option. As IV representing our community, why they are not proposing some kind of relief along with DACA and other immigration changes?

Same bill came many times in 12 years.

2006/04:

Sen. Brownback: S.Amdt.3341 amends S.2454, first Senate Immigration bill

Immigration Voice confers with Sen. Brownback’s (R-KS) staff and succeeds in introducing Amendment #3341 to S.2454, the first Senate Immigration bill. This bill did not pass cloture, and hence the amendments were never voted on.

The highlights of these amendments were:

Removal of the hard country cap on Employment-based Green cards

Ability to file for Adjustment of Status even without visa number availability

Skilled green cards recaptured from 2001-2004 to be available to the skilled categories only

3 year extensions for H1B, Employment Authorization, and Travel Documents

Improves STEM exemption and drops the three year experience requirement

to nilegc:

Since you didn’t listen to the call and are ignorent of the ground reality, here are the facts. At this time only HR392 can pass, period. There is no fallback. This is the only bill that has 302 cosponsors with support from every congressional caucus. It took almost 10 years to educate all the varoius offices and get them to cosponsor this bill. There are political reasons why this has not been included already or has not passed the committee or house yet, which is being handled.

The admin cannot and will not do anything for you. Many members of the admin are known antiimmigrants and if can do something, guess what they will do?

Unless you see another bill with 300 cosponsors that will help you, this is the only option. The plan B is wait in backlogs and get your GC whenever it comes if are still here after withstanding all the obstacles and hostile rules thrown your way.

This will be plan B that will result due to inaction.

Well thanks for providing plan B, Which is very new for me and all the indian immigrants :) Thanks for your bright input. I am not buying.
I do my part, call Congress, Send letters and Speak. I am not against any org. But if they are not doing what they are suppose to do, I can expose them. In your opinion I may be wrong.

My question, Are you in support for Merit based system?

to nilegc:

Yes'm. I am very much for merit based system. Even after these years, I will very easily cross the 30 points inRAISE.

but, RAISE is DOA. democrats will not allow 500k cut to family based. Hats a non starter. It is their bread and butter vote bank. Lot of these bills are to appease the vote bank. Tom Cotton wants to show he is anti immigration. If he were serious about this, he would have come up with something reasonable. It is not easy to get rid of 50k DV lottery. See rep. Richmonds response.

Also read rubio'srecent tweet on country cap. There are sensible folks on both sides willI got to work on this.

Two more months. Just give it a shot inspire of your skepticism.

Getting anything done in DC is very tough. Lobbying is billion dollars business is DC. IV does not have that much money to compete against big corporates/lawyers who are against any change in immigration.

Below is IV call summary on 01/11/2018:
1.Advocacy event in DC - 02/04/2018 - 02/06/2018
2. Is DACA bill possible before 01/19/2018 - No, its not possible
3. Should we need to change the language in HR392 to remove family immigration in the bill(attached chain immigration in HR392) - No not possible, it will harm the bill if we remove
4. Options to pass HR392 - attach a fee to it. Still not sure what could be the fee. Employers are against HR392, they dont want to clear the backlog. Reach out to your employer to get the support for the bill.
5. HR392 is IV child since 2011. If its passed then credit should go to IV but if its failed then its SIIA and other organization who played spoiler as each organization have their own agenda. If all of us demand HR392 in one voice then HR392 is possible.
6.If HR392 is not part of any DACA bill, then HR392 is dead.

I am predicting here, Trump will fix our issue.. Not IV or lobby firm. Just wait and see. Of course IV will come later and try to claim victory!! :) Done for the Day, I had to vent out somewhere. Only thing I was worry that our people dont see reality.. Well its not their fault.. They read news and assume. Now its reminding me of 2016 election. I was right that time also :)

I have nothing against IV and anyway they are doing something about country cap issue which creates huge backlog.
But it is very surprising that IV has no idea that a bill with 300 co-sponsor will be put for voting or not.

Right now there is no clarity on DACA bill and any immigration changes as part of DACA bill. So in the end Republican will introduce a bill which will have no or very few co-sponsor and they will do a vote on it.

IV should try to meet Shalabh Kumar of Hindus for republican and ask him to speak to Trump. May be he can get HR392 added in Immigration reform by promising some election fund to Trump and we all can contribute to the fund.
