Followed your suggestion and made another INFOPASS appointment for early May in Chicago, and I got an RFE notice last night! I think the congressional interest was the key. This was email I got though, I am assuming it is medical RFE (and lawyers have my new medicals ready to go), any way of knowing without seeing the paper notice (which I guess go to the lawyers?):

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS

Your Case Status: Request for Evidence

On April 20, 2018, we mailed a request for additional evidence for your Form I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS, Receipt Number LIN1790343596. The request for evidence explains what we need from you. We will not take action on your case until we receive the evidence or the deadline to submit it expires. Please follow the instructions in the request for evidence. If you do not receive your request for additional evidence by May 20, 2018, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

A request for evidence is made when an application/petition is lacking required documentation/evidence (initial evidence) or the officer needs more documentation/evidence (additional evidence) to determine an applicant's eligibility for the benefit sought. We may send you a request for evidence at any stage of our review. The request will indicate what evidence or information is needed for us to fully evaluate your application or petition. The notice will explain where to send the evidence and will give the deadline for your response. Your application or petition will be held in suspense during that time. If you receive a request for evidence and have questions about what you need to submit, you may call our National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

Current processing times can be found on the USCIS website at under Check Processing Times.

Good work. Nice to see it moving along. You wont know what the RFE is about until you get it.... I asked the same questions as you are. You are just going to have to wait for the letter. Guess its just medicals.

One more question (sorry, you're like my guru now), but how long was it between the email notice and the letter? My lawyers are saying it could be several weeks! That seems like worst case scenario. Or are they right? And from when USCIS get the medicals to saying case approved wasn't too long right? Like 2 weeks?

hi,
I have a question. I submitted my 485 in November 2017. Lets say if i attend the EB interview in the next 2-3 months, should i have to take in a new medicals even though my validity is till November 2018? The reason that i ask is , if the EB1 retrogression goes on till October 2018, will i get an RFE when the EB1 becomes current, when the file is looked at? Is it better to take in new medicals to avoid any RFE at that point of time?
Appreciate your help on this. thanks

Hello apr2017,
What is the criteria for interview? Are all I-485 applications subjected to interview? MY PD is Nov-2016 and my I-140 was approved mid april.

Thanks,

Yes, it does. My 485 RFE was issued on 3/26. Submitted medicals on 4/6 (Friday) and status changed to RFER on 4/9 (Monday).
