good luck on the interview.. again u asked for opinion from folks that have been thru the interview - i have not .however if i were u i would just be proactive and have the medical test results handy at the interview.. if they dont ask at the interview u wouldve just spent some $$ but if they ask for it as an RFE during or after i bet u would be cursing urself.. whaddya have to lose when u have everything to gain?

Hai Guys

Category: EB1A
Filed: March 14th, 2017
Transfer date: October 25
Interview date: Jan 2nd, 2018

Want to share my happiness, got approval on the spot. The officer handed the approval letter and said will receive the card within 3 weeks. The interview process was for maximum 15 mins, checked marriage document, child's birth certificate, and 3 yes /no questions. Actually, he was looking at my wife documents (and took copies) more than mine, since she is working.

Hope this info will be useful

Thanks for all the inputs in the forum it was very useful.

Hello friends,
My PD is 21st March 2017
Category -eb1c , India
I485 interview done on 28th December
I485 Approval Notice got on 3rd Jan (today) through mail box

I received only me and my wife approval notice and my son and daughter approval notice is still pending.
And they mentioned on that Notice that “The application has been approved. Prior to receive your permanent resident card you may be required to report For biometrics processing. pleaee dont take any action right now. If you are required to report for this processing, you Will receive another notice.”

My question is ..this kind of information anyone got in your notice or is it just general thing? And how much time they are taking for sending the green card after approval??

Finished the interview a few minutes ago in Chicago, approved on the spot.
IO just asked for paystubs, EVL, and passports. Verified personal info; address, DOB, employment, etc. Asked i-485 yes/ no questions and then told me my case was approved. Took less than 20 minutes.

Good luck to everyone!

to cordobesgc:

Also i wanted to shared a compilation of interview experiences that i did last night before the interview:

Denver: Like everybody else, it started with an oath and signing a paper since no lawyer was accompanied. No documents asked only passport and driving license. After asking y/n questions from I485, the officer asked when was I last entered USA and what visa category, tell me about your job, what is the best part of your job, etc. Over all very nice experience and it was done in 20 minutes. I carried a bucket load of documents but the officer already had my folder with all the docs submitted during original filing. At the end, he told me that we will have decision in 2 to 4 weeks. I hope it helps all of you who are waiting for their interview. Please let me know if I can answer any other question.

Los Angeles: It was a friendly interview, the officer asked me to confirm Name, DOB, Address, Job duties, Yes/No questions. Also he asked for the EVL, new medical examination, pay stubs, birth and marriage certificate and copy of my degree. I didn't carry a copy of my degree, but he said that was okay because it was included with my I-140 application. After that the officer asked my wife the when/how and where about our relationship, also asked proof of our relationship like photos and joint documents.

Santa Clara: She came out for me, shook my hand, showed me to her office. The interview took about 20 minutes in total. As was previously said, I have been asked only questions from the I-485 form:
1. Name, DOB, whether I am still at the same address. I was asked couple of times if I have another name.
2. Am I married, do I have children. Do I have any children that were not part of the marriage. Children question was also asked one more time in the middle of the interview.
3. Do I work for the same company.
4. Some questions from the medical exam. My TB skin test was "undetermined", so I explained that I did chest x-ray and it came back negative.
5. Yes/No questions from the I485 form.
The interviewer have verified my original birth certificate and my new passport (I have recently renewed my passport). I have provided the following documents: letter of employment, tax transcript for 2016, and a copy of my new passport.
At the end of the interview I was told that everything looks in order and I was given a paper saying that my case need further review (don't recall the exact words, forgot this paper at work). The interviewer have also told me that I should check my status online in 2 days because she is planning to finalize everything on the day of the interview. She sounded very reassuring.

Santa Clara: We completed our 485 interview today (Nov 9). they allowed my wife and son for the interview as well (their interview notices were for December first week, but my attorney asked me to take them with me).
The officer hesitated first but later allowed them with me in the room as they could locate their folders in the local office. The whole thing went well. Took about 30-35 minutes for all of us. She (officer) asked me basic questions about my name, address, date of birth and employment letter. (they looked at the birth certificate and affidavits) Carried all originals (birth certificates, affidavits, marriage certificates, bank statements (in case you have a joint account), W2's, employment letter, Salary slips for 2 months.
Later she asked about my previous entry dates/visa categories in the US. I had taken all my I-797’s (from 2003) with me. Then she asked us yes/no questions (based on I-485 forms). She told me that they will review the case and mail me the decision, if they need further information, they will mail me that too. :-)

Newark: Took about an hour. (40 min for secondary)
Spend about 20 mins for the primary's file, asked similar 485 Y/N, employer, job related expected questions (responsibilities, working hours etc)
Overall easy interview, no teasers, but the amount of time he took was tiring.

Newark: Officer was very nice with us. She asked basic Yes/No questions from I-485. Asked how my spouse and I met, looked our photos. She didn't ask for Supplement J though. Now it's a wait game. Officer said it can take up to 30 days to get the results.

DC: I went in first and it took about 40 mins. It took pretty long because the office took time to verify the attorney's license and check the legal representative form. She spent good amount of time looking at the documents in the folder and filling out info on the computer. I would say I only got questioned for about 20 minutes. The majorities were basic questions from i-485 like name, dob, ssn, last date/place of entry, where current visa was issued, spouse's dob, yes/no questions. I was also asked when I first entered the US and on what visa.
She then moved on to ask for company name, job title, salary, updated EVL but did not mention the supplement J, so I only handed the EVL. She also asked how I get paid and wanted to see my bank statement, which I didn't have with me. I provided W2s and pay stubs and she seemed to be okay with it.

San Francisco: The interview was friendly and took around 25 minutes. Questions asked were mostly to confirm information provided on form I485 (things like day and place of birth, name of parents, date of last entry into the U.S. etc…) as well as reconfirming the yes/no admissibility questions.
Documents requested: Passport, EAD, employment verification letter and pay stubs.
(Though, given the generic nature of the interview notice I prepared and brought a _lot_ more documents, anything that I could think of that could possibly be of relevance.)

San Francisco: It was a pleasant experience. The IO asked me to verify basic biographical information (name, DOB, current address) and answer all the Yes / No questions on the I-485. They also wanted me to confirm the date of last entry into the US. They made a couple of notes on my form and collected my I-693 with my medical exam (I wasn't able to submit this with my original application). We chatted about my employer and some of the research I've worked on that has gone into their products. All of this was very friendly and informal, more like talking to someone you've met at an event rather than a stressful interview. At the end of the interview (roughly 20 minutes), they said congratulations and that everything looked good and told me to expect an approval within 30 days, if not sooner. I received my approval notice within a week of my interview and I'm currently waiting on the physical green card.

San Jose: The IO asked questions from I485, including DOB, parent's name, most recent entry, marital status... etc. My attorney said it's the best to bring original birth certificate with me but I only had a scanned copy, which is sufficient anyhow in the interview. Supplement J is not required because I stayed with the same company. IO didn't ask for it at all. Brought my W2s and most recent tax return but IO didn't ask for them as well. In the end of the interview, I was told the that case is approved and that I should receive the card in mail withing 3 weeks. Found the card in mailbox 10 days later, though the online status never updates since "Interview is Scheduled".

Phoenix: My sponsor also sent an attorney to accompany me but my case was so clean-cut and I was over-prepared that I didn't need any assistance. He just helped keeping the conversation flow since everybody in the USCIS office knew him.
Officer was very nice and to the point. Asked for ID/passport/SSN and verified name, address, date of entry and status changes, job position, education etc. Then he asked for the employment verification letter which I provided. Went over 485 yes/no questions. Asked whether I've left U.S. which I hadn't, but then he said there is some information in their system that I might have (which was weird) and that he just wanted to confirm that I didn't travel with my advance parole from last year!
He then checked all the documents and made sure everything is in order and that I was never out of status. Didn't dig too much into the details of the job or the company. Overall it took 20 minutes. He left the room once to check something and came back in 2-3 minutes. That was it. They said one final review is needed before they can approve. Attorney said I'll get the card in 2 weeks.

Phoenix: Interview seems to much lesser than the formality.
In and Out in 15 mins , Took oath,I-485 yes/no questions,DL Verified ,Asked to confirm the address/phone number.
Not requested any documents like BC,Lease, etc.
Offered to give employment verification letter to be part of the file , Officer kept it.

Houston: The interview lasted 10 minutes. The officer just walked me through my I485 form to check if the statements were still valid. I gave her my latest I94 and copy of the stamped passport page from my last trip outside US after filing I485. I gave her a copy of the latest employment letter. No more questions were asked. She said it takes about 2 weeks for the card to arrive. I asked her if this meant my application was approved? She said she cannot say that right now, she needs to complete some paperwork which she would be doing by end of the day. She said my case was very simple. She then handed me a notice of results letter saying my case if being held for review.

Houston: The interview was very straightforward with expected questions regarding job duties, location, marital status, credentials, etc., in line with what several other interviewees have shared on this forum. The immigration officer was very friendly and the interview was conversational. She went over many details on the I-485 application such as the Y/N questions and past addresses. At the end of the interview, she handed me a letter that said the case is being held for review until a final decision can be made. However, she did mention that she was going to recommend approval which she did. Apart from what had already been submitted as part of the petition, she only asked to see the last two pay slips. A pleasant interview experience overall. Even the wait was little since I happened to be the last case for the day (01:45 PM). The final approval was done yesterday, and I received the notification today.

Miami: Apparently today was the first day of interviews here. The officer asked me for the Supplement J form (I was not asked for this in the interview letter, but THANK GOD for these forums, I told the lawyers to prepare it just in case and, sure enough, it was the first thing he asked for). Other than that he asked for my drivers license and my passport. I asked if he wanted the company letter and he said "the more the merrier", so I gave that to him too. He went through the Yes/No questions, asked if I was still single, confirmed my address, ssn and phone number, and briefly asked what I did for the company and what my company did. And that was basically it. Then he said I would receive the decision in the mail. So now I just need to wait and see.

Seattle: Interview was pretty straight forward as mentioned by others . IO verified all the details of I485 first with me and then with my wife . Then started the question about marriage ( when , where , how ) . Interview lasted for about 30 mins . Wife and I were allowed to go in together for interview. IO asked for employment verification letter , w2s and any other document related to company.
Also IO kept our photos (wedding , vacations) and any document showing our joint account . At the end IO told it looks good from my side and said you will get a letter within 30 days .

Seattle: The interview was very straightforward. Questions:
1. The Yes/No questions on the I485
2. About the job offer and what projects I will be/ am working on
3. Quite a few questions about the marriage -- Here he took documents like home ownership, photographs of wedding. We only had photographs of the ceremony in the US -- so he looked at my phone for photographs from India.
4. Any changes since we file 485: My wife switched jobs, so he took her new H1B receipt. I travelled to India, so he took my new I94. Finally he said that the I485- Supplement J has not been adjudicated. USCIS will let us know once that is adjudicated.

Hartford: . At the check-in, we were asked to give all documents that were prepared for the interview, including originals(passports, birth certificates, etc.). Then we waited for an hour before were called by the officer. The officer walked us through our I485 form to check if the statements were still valid, yes/no answers. Asked to see our driving licenses and SSNs. He took copies of all prepared documents and even some originals :((( - employer verification letter, apartment lease, W2, tax returns, car insurance, I-797b notice, recent paystubs, i-94s and copies of all passports, EAD/AP cards, birth and marriage certificates. At the end, he said that everything seems good and we will hear the decision in about a week or so. The interview lasted about 30 minutes.
The bad news - the officer got the original I-797b notice and never returned it. I noticed the missing only at home:(((

Orlando: The immigration officer was professional and not intimidating. He started by checking my ID and then asked me for my name, date of birth, city were I was born in as well as my country of origin and making sure my answers match what's in the I-485 form. He then asked me if I still work with my employer, when was the last time I re-entered the US. He then started asking me the YES/NO questions in the I-485 form. After I answered all his questions, he explained to me that depending on visa availability I will hear back from them. Contrary to what some people report in here, he did not ask for I-485 Supplement J, but he did ask to see an employment verification letter. I had already filed both I-140 and I-485 concurrently, and my attorney advised that I don't need to carry an I-485 Supplement J, but only an employment verification letter. I am not saying that I-485 Supplement J is not a requirement, but it seems that each applicant has a different experience depending on the officer. My advise for everyone is to check with your attorney before deciding if you are willing to carry an I-485 Supplement J or not.
The whole interview took less than 20 minutes. He did not ask me to show him any W2, Tax return forms or pay stubs. I noticed that he already had an employment verification letter that my attorney probably send along with my I-485 form.
For my wife, he asked for her basic information and then started asking her the YES/NO questions in the I-485 form. Just like what happened with me, he then explained to her that we will hear back from them when there are visas available. My wife asked him if he oversees any issue that would prevent us from getting approved to which he replied "No, I don't see any issue". He also asked her to provide him with any document to prove our marriage. My wife handed him our lease agreement and our tax return which we file jointly.

BTW, does the processing times in https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processingTime... site matter? For example for TSC, it shows that it is processing applications from 15 April 2017 now. But we have people in this forum who got greened after a 485 receipt date of May 2017.

We had interview yesterday at Houston field office. Although we were scheduled separately, IO interviewed me and my wife together. IO was very pleasant and asked us if we have an attorney representing today and since we did not have one, IO asked us to sign a waiver form. We took an oath by raising right hand. Interview started with primary applicant and basically IO verified all the information on 485 such as name, DOB, address, last entry in USA and visa status as well as all yes/no type questions. IO then asked me about my job responsibilities (IO was taking notes) as well as work location and address. IO has my both (EB1A/NIW) i- 140 petitions on the desk. Further IO asked me about how many publications I have and what type of research I do. Looks like they are re-verifying information submitted with i-140 application is true to the fact.
Later on IO interviewed my wife with similar questions on 485 and confirmed marriage date, DOB of son, my DOB, address, last entry in to the USA etc.
Interview was done within 20 mins. We did not receive definitive answer on the application status although IO told us that we will hear something in 30 days. IO also hand over letter stating that our cases are held for review and do not contact us in less than 120 days to check the status.

We had the interview today at Tucson, AZ field office. IO was very nice and she told us that we needed to split in half for the interview because her office was not big enough to accommodate the seven of us.

IO asked me if I have an attorney and the answer was NO.

IO asked the ages of my children and since one of them just turned 14 last December, she accompanied her to do the fingerprints because when she was 13 she wasn't require to do them for the EAD.

IO started with my file since I was the primary applicant. IO verified all the information on 485 such as name, DOB, address, first entry in USA and all my visa status which were F1, F1-OPT, FI-OPT STEM and H1-B, then she told my children to cover their ears and started with the yes/no questions. IO asked me about my company and job duties. Then she asked if I needed supplement J and I responded NO because I am a NIW applicant. She agreed and didn’t ask more about that, then she asked if I needed I-864 I told that it was not applicable to our case and she was OK with my answer. She wrote a few things on my application such as alien registration number and confirmation that I answered again the yes/no question and then she asked to sign it below my previous signature.

Then IO interviewed my children all together. IO verified all the information on 485 such as name, DOB, address, asked to me all their visa status which were F2 and H4, then she asked them if they have ever had any issues with the police and they responded NO. This last question replaced all the yes/no questions. IO asked if they were going to school and then no more questions.
IO continued with my wife. She told me that I can stayed while she interview her and I stayed and my children went to the waiting room. IO verified all the information on 485 such as name, DOB, address, she didn’t asked my wife about visa status. Also she didn’t asked her for any proof of marriage, I believe that five children were enough proof.
IO didn't ask me for any documentation because the file already has all the info needed.
Then IO told us that we were approved and that we should be receiving our green cards within the next couple of weeks!!!

My spouse and I just wrapped up our i485 interview at the San Francisco office this morning. Here is a summary of my experience:

Scheduled interview time: 7:45 am (Me) 8:30 am (spouse).
- Check-in time: 7:40 am
- Wait-time: 20 min
- We were called in at the same time around 8 am and interviewed together
- Immigration officer's name: Officer Cen
- Interview duration: 30 min

Questions asked:

To me:
- Officer verified my name, DOB, current address
- What company do I work for? What does my company do?
- How long have I worked for my company?
- What is my role in the company?
- Asked for SSN, phone number (office wrote these details in the application)
- Why did I spend 2 years in Europe? (I worked my company's European office for 2 years to expand our business there)
- When did you get married?
- Asked about 5 to 6 Y/N questions from the i485 application
- Had us review the changes he added to the i485 (such as ssn etc..) and sign the document

To my spouse:
- Officer verified name, DOB, current address
- He asked what happened to the previous green card application (my spouse filed for a green card application back in 2012 that went nowhere)
-Where do you work? When did you start to work? Did you have an EAD before you started working? (my spouse is on L2 visa)
- Officer verified my name, DOB, current address
- Asked for SSN, phone number (office wrote these details in the application)
- Where did you get married? Which city? How did you meet? How long have you known each other.
- Asked about 5 to 6 Y/N questions from the i485
- Had us review the changes he added to the i485 (such as ssn etc..) and sign the document

The officer was very polite and also reminded us to take all documents at the end of the interview. We had a pleasant experience talking to him throughout the interview.

At the end, the officer said everything looks good and he said he has to complete some standard admin processes (including a criminal background check for the two of us). He anticipates that he would complete it in the next 3 business days.
He said if everything looks good, we should get an update in about 2 - 6 weeks. He also told us that we should not travel outside the country until then. He also said in case of any emergency travels, we should contact their office first.

At the end of the interview, we were handed a notice of interview results (attached a photo of it). We assume that this is a standard notice. He also told us that it has our A numbers listed. The results state the following:

"Your case has been held for review. At this time USCIS does not require any further information or documents from you. Should further information or documents be required, you will receive a notice in the mail. Otherwise, a final decision will be made once your case is complete"

I would say that the SF interview experience should be pretty straightforward. Good luck to everyone who has their interviews in the next few weeks. Will keep you posted when I have more updates on my case.

Interview Experience: San Antonio

My interview experience was much inline with other folk's experiences which I read on this forum. I took pretty much all my documents till date, which someone would need to hack my identity but was just asked for my Driving License and Passport (current and old).
The officer started by asking me to raise my right hand for the swearing part, going through a couple of the 485 Yes/ No questions, asked about my current work designation and what I would be working on, work location etc. Asked for my marital status, Parent's, Wife's and Kid's names, current address.

My company also arranged for a local attorney to accompany me for the interview, which I felt kind of helped as it seemed they already knew each other and in fact the officer was conversing more with the lawyer than myself :-)

At the end, the officer did not specifically mention if my case was approved and neither did I ask her the same, but she did say that the card takes ~3 weeks to arrive in mail. So I got the message ;-)

Documents Asked:

- Original DL & PP.
- Employment Verification Letter
- The lawyer and myself offerd the 485-J ourselves (even though I am working with same company). The officer mentioned it might not be actually required but she would keep it anyways.
- Latest H1 copy, as it was applied and got approved after 485 filing.

Current Case Status on USCIS website:

I-140 - Case Was Approved And My Decision Was Emailed
I-485 - Interview Is Scheduled
I-765 - Card Was Mailed To Me
I-131 - Case Was Received

Thanks to all for their contributions to this excellent forum which is of immense help to us all.

All the best.

Hi my centre was Texas, i got approved last month. Interview was formality but set up is very professional so go prepared as much as you can. Carry originals of whatever you may think could be important. They may not ask anything at the end of day. All my details in my profile.

I was on L1A. They didnt ask for any original document except for passport. Having said that dont assume they wouldnt ask for things like birth cert, marriage cert, paystubs, employment letter etc. You should be prepared for that. After oath by raising hands, IO saw my passport, asked if i work for same company and then she started chatting more casually about my previous work experiences in singapore, japan, switzerland and UK. I have worked for same company across the globe. She asked few Yes/No question already filled in I485. Done in 5 or 6 mins in total.

babbal: Oct 16/ Dec 8 / Jan 8 / Charleston, SC / EB1C

Today we (me and My wife) went thru the interview at Charleston SC office
It looked like the first person whom we shown the interview appointment letters did not have our names on her today's list of interview appointments so she took our letters inside and then came back and entered the info by her own in the system. I think, the lady went inside to make sure that the interview officer had our case papers before saying yes to us.

Officer called both of us at the same time though our timings were different as per interview notices.

Oath taking
Asked for Original Passport, DL
Officer was nice, straightforward & friendly too. He asked me about my L1B and L1A questions which were simple
verbally Confirmed all personal info like DoB, Name, Address etc.
Did not ask for any other document
Talked a lot about India
485 yes/no questions
Verbally approved on spot

Now will wait for GCs in mail.
