Potomac Service Center RFE, reply with FedEx?

I got a transition RFE for STEM extension pending at YSC. Reply envelope shows the following address:

Potomac Service Center
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
2200 Potomac Center Dr Stop 2425
Arlington VA 20598-2425

This doesn't seem to be a P.O. Box. Has anyone tried sending an RFE to this address by FedEx or UPS?

I got a RFE and an envelope with the above address after finding online I just sent it by usps as it would be easier for them to send it to a particular department.

I'm not sure how it would be any easier to find the department when the envelope just has the address. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out whether using FedEx is fine, because I prefer FedEx over USPS; it is easier to track and I have access to cheaper prices for the same day options (compared to ~$30 @USPS).

Hey!

It seems like we are on the same boat. They sent a RFE on 25th after 59 days waiting, and I received a mail on 28th and sent the document on 31st vis USPS Express (with signature) as soon as everything was resumed after the holiday. It was delivered on Wed morning. I will call them next week in order to verify their receipt. It seems like they do not necessarily notify their receipt.

I have really tight timeline (starting my job within a month in another state), so it would be great if someone else in the similar situation shares stories.

Hey imjkim,

Wow surprisingly you have a really similar timeline with mine! They also sent me a RFE on 23th and I sent a reply on 31st via FEDEX and the tracker says USCIS got it on Wed morning like yours. I tried to call them today to check if they got it but they said today they have a system problem so they wanted me to call tmr again.
My work was supposed to start next week but I had to delay it for one month because of it... anyway I need my card ASAP.. so i'm trying my best to push the case.. please let me know if you have any update.

Are you waiting for inital OPT or changing employers for the extension? Otherwise you should be able to revalidate I-9 based on the pending I-765.

That said, my original question is no longer relevant because I handed it off to my corporate immigration vendor. It seems like they are slower than what I would have done myself, but they're almost there to send the reply.

I had a new update that they received my document one week after my doc was delivered. 7 days to hear that they received my RFE. Now my application was approved earlier this week. But I talked with the staff at a congressman's office in my district. Do not even try to talk with the customer service center. I had to wait one and a half hours to hear from the second tier officer to just check the website update. If you did not hear from them, find something else, e.g. congressman's office, or Infopass, so that you can directly reach them out.

I applied on May 27th and received RFE on June 24th, sent them the document to Potomac service center, VA on June 27th. I see no status update. Should i call the particular service center for the update? . Exactly how many days did it take you to receive your card from the day they received your RFE reply.

Hi, all! Just want to share my experience with everyone.

I sent my response to RFE for STEM extension on 6/13 through UPS, and it was delivered on 6/15. I put all the documents in the envelope with Potomac Service Center address provided by USCIS and then put it in the UPS envelope. Either FedEx or UPS should work if you do not like USPS. USCIS website updates the receipt of the response to RFE on June 20th. So it takes a few days for them for the status update to show up. The status changes to 'new card is being produced' on June 28th.

Still waiting for my EAD card to be mailed next! Good luck everyone!

@ niqiuwang3,

Hi, my response to RFE for stem extension was delivered on 6/16 by UPS and updated on the USCIS website on 6/22. No updates after that, still waiting. From your post it looks like my timeline is nearing and I should get approval in a day or two. Could you let me when your initial submission for opt stem extension to USCIS was? Mine was received on 4/22. Thanks!

Hi, my initial submission was received on 3/28. I got the RFE at end of May (cannot remember exactly what date). I think they are processing all the STEM extension pretty fast after receiving response to RFE. You should be able to get your approval in a few days I believe.

****************** very urgent***********

Hi All,

I mailed my required RFE document to potomac service center through UPS. They did not deliver my package on the scheduled date June 25th. And on June 26th i couldn't track my package. When contacted UPS couldn't find my package information. They need time to investigate itseems. I don't know what to do now. Please guys suggest me possible options. And also i have a question, with the RFE document, they sent us an envelope in which we need to send back the document. I did that, but at ups store guy kept that envelope into another package. I felt that this shouldn't have been done. How about you guys, did you sent your RFE document?

Much thanks

to Tyco:

In the RFE, they were requiring letter from the employer stating several things --so i send the I983 which contains all the information of my employer (a real letter from the employer might be better). I also attached my transcript and copy of diploma just in case. I remember they said you can submit anything you have submitted with your original application again. Also, you need to submit the RFE itself along with other documents.

Hope this helps.

Not sure about what you can do now. My response to RFE receipt was updated 3 business days after the delivery just for your reference. My envelope was also put into a UPS envelope, so I think this is fine.

If you want to send another RFE docs (which I don't think you should do for now), you should call USCIS and make sure they understand your situation, and also, let them know you are sending another same RFE documents as to prevent confusion for USCIS (If they received 2). I think you should just wait for a few days and let UPS figure out what is going on since you still have time. (mine reply date listed on my RFE is 8/8/2016, i guess u are similar). I didn't use the envelope they gave me. I just put all in the big cardboard Fedex Express envelope, and they received it.

Thanks for the information.

Yeah, I will wait for the ups update. However, I made an e-request to provide me with a new set of RFE document and USCIS gonna reply me by July 23. How does this e- request thing works? Any idea guys? What if my UPS package gets delivered by the time they reply for my e-request?. Will they still gonna consider the package? I heard people make more than 2 e-requests if USCIS doesnt respond accordingly.

Much thanks

Hi ,

Even I got the RFE to be send requesting new set of photographs. I did send it but UPS is saying that the address is incorrect.
The address i have is the same you have. But in the last its going to DHS, VA 20598-2425. I see that the address you have is Arlington, VA. Could you please confirm if you had DHS anywhere and did your application went fine by sending it to the address you have?

Much thanks

Hi,

I sent my RFE response using UPS to CHANTILLY, VA 20598-2425. The envelope that USCIS provided had Arlington, VA 20598-2425 on it. The UPS guy told me that CHANTILLY, VA is the address they have in their system for that particular zip code. I sent my documents on June 30th using UPS Next Day Air. I tracked my shipment and the package was delivered to some Maryland Address instead of Virginia address that I provided UPS. I called UPS and found out that it was redirected to Maryland for security reasons and that it will reach CHANTILLY, VA eventually. On July 5th, the status in the USCIS website was updated to "Response to USCIS' Request Evidence was Received". I guess it reached them on July 5th since 4th is a holiday.

In short,

June 30 - Shipped the package to CHANTILLY, VA using UPS Next Day Air
July 1 - Package redirected to Maryland for security reasons
July 5 - USCIS case status updated to RFE Response Recieved
